Hi I’m Clare. I am an Ontario-local that fell in love with the west coast while living in San Francisco. After graduating from the McMaster Midwifery Program I came west and made my home in East Vancouver. I have an honours degree in Political Science from McMaster University and a postgraduate certificate in Public Relations but knew for a long time that my heart was with the art and science of midwifery practice. I grew up on a horse farm and as long as I can remember I have been around birth. In many ways, I intuitively learned how to be a midwife as a child helping horses birth their foals!
I believe strongly in informed choice and in midwives’ ability to facilitate empowering experiences for families. I genuinely love the process of getting to know my clients and their families and building a trusting and safe relationship throughout their care. People will always remember the way they are treated on the day their child is born and it is a privilege to support clients and their families throughout this time.
When I’m not working as a midwife you are likely to find me scoping out new restaurants and cafes around the city, browsing interior design blogs, hiking with my pup or editing photos and film.
My second pregnancy was very stressful and needed a fair bit of medical intervention and support. My midwives at Pomegranate were incredibly supportive, patient and helpful. They encouraged and supported my desire to have a VBAC (vaginal birth after cesarean) by providing with helpful information to help me make informed decisions about my pregnancy. When I needed a consultation with an OB, they worked well with him and were very professional. I had planned a home birth, but needed to transfer to the hospital and the midwife ensured that I was cared for and had the best experience possible, in spite of the change of plans. I was able to have a medication-free VBAC and it was amazing. They provided great post-partum support and breastfeeding assistance. I highly recommend them.
