CLOTH DIAPERING 101 |
|
| KAREN RANDAL Working for seven years as an Occupational Therapist with mothers and babies in the NICU and with families and young children in the community, I have always felt a pull to connect with Mothers & Babies. There is something magical and transformative about becoming a mother and the wonders of a developing baby never ceases to amaze me. Launching New & Green Baby Co. has allowed me to continue to make connections with mothers and babies and share knowledge which is what I love to do. Owning and running New & Green has been a dream come true, from a productivity and family perspective. It's been very exciting to be Vancouver's first online store where you can get everything you need to successfully cloth diaper your baby – products and information. | |
VBAC GROUP |
|
KRISTY DELLEBUUR O'CONNOR I am very excited to bring this new group for VBAC (Vaginal Birth After Cesarean) mothers to Pomegranate Midwives. VBAC is a birth topic that is very close to my heart. My son Declan was born by emergency C-section in March 2005, after 24 hours of labor. After much soul searching and the support of my great midwives at Pomegranate, I decided to try for a home VBAC with the birth of my second child. My daughter Sadie was born at home in August 2007. My own experiences with birth motivate me to help women planning VBAC’s to find their own sources of strength and hope. I have a Bachelor of Arts in Child and Youth Care, and a Master of Arts in Human and Social Development. My experiences with groups include adolescent health, crisis intervention, disordered eating support and teaching adult learners in a college environment. |

| MASSAGE THERAPY | |

Kristin Waddell Kristin graduated from the 3000 hour program at the Okanagan College of Massage Therapy in 2005. Upon completing her registration she worked abroad and returned to Canada rejuvenated and ready to continue her practice in BC. In 2007 she became a doula and re-ignited her passion working with pre and postnatal women. Among the many skills that Kristin studied since beginning her journey as a therapist, her interest lies with craniosacral therapy, myofascial release and pelvis alignment. She facilitates your therapeutic goals by allowing your body to self correct and ultimately enhances your ability to focus on your infant within. She believes the body holds the past and the mind holds the future; working with your body can bring you to the present moment which enables your healing process to begin. Along with massage, Kristin advocates other avenues supporting your therapeutic goals such as acupuncture, yoga or stretching, pilates, nutrition and holistic counseling. |
Pomegranate is excited to a preceptor site for midwifery, medical and nursing students. We find that teaching keeps our skills sharp, and demands that we are always up to date with the latest maternity-care research. In return, our students teach us from their own life experience, and infuse our practice with new energy. In the case of our midwifery students who are with us for one or more semesters, they provide an even deeper level of continuity to our clients.
MIDWIFERY STUDENTSMEDICAL STUDENTS
In their third year of school, which is when medical students are exploring what area(s) of practice or specialty appeals to them, they are offered the opportunity to follow a midwife through her clinic day. They are also able to take classes with midwifery students, and be part of the Maternity Care Club which involves midwives and GPs teaching hands-on obstetric skills.
