Punam Hayward
Hi! My name is Punam and I am 2nd year midwifery student. I am so excited to be working with everyone at Pomegranate Community Midwives. Many different life, work, and educational experiences brought me to study midwifery. Since I was a teenager I have been passionate about reproductive health but it was only a few years ago while I was working with midwives and I witnessed how they empowered women, families, and communities that I knew I wanted to be one. On my journey to becoming a midwife I have fostered a deep appreciation and respect for the birth process. I hope to promote wellness in women, babies, and families taking into account the social, emotional, cultural and physical aspects of women’s reproductive health experience.
I have a Masters of Science in Community Health, in addition to an honor’s degree in Women Studies and a degree in Biology from the University of Winnipeg. I have several years experience as an unplanned pregnany and birth control counselor and as a sexual health educator in Winnipeg. I used to coordinate a Women’s Centre, worked in Immigrant and First Nations organizations including spending one year living in a remote island First Nations community in Northern Manitoba. In my free time, I love yoga and photography. I look forward to working with all women regardless of race, sexual orientation, class, or ability.
