Vancouver Midwives | Community Midwifery in BC Lower Mainland

BETH DUNCAN

I became excited about midwifery and
its importance after working with a
midwife in an indigenous community
in Guyana, South America. I returned
to Canada to finish my degree in
Women’s Studies and Environmental
Studies from the University of Victoria.
Shortly after, I completed a 4-year
Bachelor of Midwifery degree at UBC.

Outside of formal education and midwifery, most of my work experience is with people with disabilities in and out of residential care settings. I have a working knowledge of American Sign Language (ASL) and a deep inclination to continually improve that knowledge. It is a privilege to offer accessible midwifery care to the Deaf community and to women with disabilities.

I also have experience working in a Transition House for women of all ages leaving abusive relationships, and in residential and drop-in programs for pregnant and parenting adolescents. I am committed to challenging midwifery to become more accessible and utilized by women who live on the margins: including queer women, new immigrants, women of colour, and women with a disability.

I am very happy to be working in and around my neighbourhood in Vancouver and I am ecstatic to be among the knowledge, skill, and passion that is Pomegranate Community Midwives.
