Amy Braunstein
Hello! My name is Amy and I am a second year
midwifery student at UBC. I’ve recently
completed my academic coursework, as well as an intensive clinical course introducing me to basic midwifery skills. I am thrilled to be placed with Beth Ebers and Amy Smith at Pomegranate Community Midwives from February through April, 2008.
Before starting down the path towards midwifery, I studied in a combined Arts and Science programme at McMaster University. Upon my return home to Vancouver, I worked as a researcher and project coordinator with a number of midwifery-related organizations, including the South Community Birth Program and the BC Aboriginal Maternal Health Project. These experiences opened my eyes to the possibilities that pregnancy and birth present to women and their families.
I am also deeply influenced by my mother, who has been catching babies as a family doctor in Vancouver for almost thirty years, and who has been a strong supporter of midwifery.
Over the last couple years, I have been supporting women and their families as a doula. I feel incredibly privileged to be involved in every birth I attend. I look forward to meeting you and supporting you through your journey to parenthood.
