Vancouver Midwives | Community Midwifery in BC Lower Mainland

ALIXANDRA BACON

Hello! I am very excited to be a student with
Pomegranate Community Midwives.  I am currently in
the second year of the midwifery program at UBC
and this is my first clinical placement.

I discovered my passion for sexual health and reproductive rights in high school and knew that I would direct this passion into midwifery.   I completed a BSc at UBC with a major in Biology and a minor in Critical Studies in Sexuality.   After graduation, I became a Certified Sexual Health Educator.  Over the past three years I have worked with the Saleema Noon Group and Options for Sexual Health to deliver sexual health programs and counseling to groups of all ages, ethnicities, abilities and sexual orientations.

Two years ago I completed the DONA doula training at Douglas College.  I feel very grateful to the women who invited me to share in their birthing experiences.  They helped to encourage my passion and broaden my learning.  I served on the board of directors for the Doula Services Association and am Vice President of the Midwifery Student Government.

I bring to my practice a respect and passion for diversity, a focus on wellness and a strong commitment to informed choice.    I feel incredibly privileged to partner with women and families to create safe and fulfilling pregnancy, birth and postpartum experiences.  My practicum runs from late January to the end of April.  I look forward to meeting you and want to thank you for helping me learn the art of midwifery!
